Illustration Friday---Garden

It's been a while since I've participated---but this weeks theme was right down my alley. Garden---seems like I spend a lot of time in someone's garden painting. Here's a pastel of a water garden at Menucha. http://www.menucha.org/ A lovely place to visit and stay. Our local plein aire group went there last summer. Great place to escape!

Don't see a lot of pastels on IF, such a treat! The reflections are wonderful.

I love the looseness of your pastel drawings, including the other two further down the page, do you fix them during or after the drawing stage ?

Just a quick answer to JerryChicken's question---I didn't used to fix my pastels, just framed under glass. Now I've figured out how to eliminate the glass by using pva size diluted in water & sprayed during the pastel painting process. Once it dries the color seems to darken about as much as acrylic paint does when it dries. When I'm completely finished, I'll put several coats of the pva spray on, then finish with several coats of a UV resistant acrylic clear spray. Hope this helps!
