Illustration Friday on Monday---theme: Open

Thought this was a good painting to go with the theme Open and also to celebrate Autumn, my favorite season! These chestnuts are falling all over town, getting crushed underneath car tires, collecting in the grass below the trees, showing off their shiny hard shells. Painted years ago in watercolor.

Oh, I love this piece! And I love chestnuts...I am a compulsive collector of these prickly treasures.

The painting has this recognizeable watercolor look - fluid, brilliant and unique. Loved the autumn colors.

Very good painting, we call them conkers here after the old game. When I was a small boy we would gather the conkers like treasure to play the once popular game in the school playground. Now the conkers lay undisturbed under the trees and children have forgotten this simple fun. Thanks for sparking the memory with your gentle painting.

Hmmm, there are quite a few wonderful colours here.
The theme it's a good choice! Here the pomegranates are also opening, ripe and ready to enjoy.

This is a beautiful illustration. And great take on the topic.

I grew up with Conker Trees and played conkers all the time. (It's a brit thing!) Horse Chestnut trees and rather magnificent and quite rare in the US. You make me miss home, but in a good way!
